India Takes Giant Leap for Startup Ecosystem: ₹10,000 Crore Fund of Funds 2.0 Unveiled
The Indian government has taken a bold step towards nurturing the country's startup ecosystem by unveiling the ₹10,000 Crore Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0. This ambitious initiative, launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), aims to provide strategic funding to early-stage startups, thereby fostering innovation and economic growth.
The Fund of Funds 2.0 is a significant upgrade to the previous version, which was launched in 2016. The new scheme seeks to address the challenges faced by startups in securing funding, particularly in the early stages of their journey. By providing a dedicated pool of funds, the government aims to bridge the gap between seed funding and venture capital investments.
According to the DPIIT, the Fund of Funds 2.0 will focus on supporting startups in key sectors such as fintech, healthtech, and clean energy. The scheme will also prioritize startups that demonstrate significant potential for growth and job creation. With a corpus of ₹10,000 Crore, the fund is expected to support over 3,600 startups in the next five years, generating over 1 lakh jobs and contributing ₹1,20,000 Crore to the country's GDP.
To qualify for funding, startups must meet specific criteria, including having a minimum of ₹10 Crore in annual revenue and a growth rate of at least 100% in the past two years. The fund will be managed by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) in partnership with leading venture capital firms.
Experts in the startup ecosystem have welcomed the move, hailing it as a game-changer for Indian startups. 'The Fund of Funds 2.0 is a testament to the government's commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and innovation,' said
Sanjay Mehta, Co-Founder, 9Unicorns. 'This move will help bridge the funding gap and provide much-needed support to startups in their early stages.'
With the Fund of Funds 2.0, India takes a significant step towards creating a robust startup ecosystem, capable of competing with the best in the world. The scheme is expected to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and drive economic growth, cementing India's position as a startup hub.
The DPIIT has invited applications from startups interested in receiving funding under the Fund of Funds 2.0. Detailed guidelines and eligibility criteria are available on the DPIIT website. With the government's support and the fund's strategic backing, Indian startups are poised to take on the world, making India a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.
